Margarita Tortilla Pizza

March 24, 2010

STORY

Very little story here. I wanted a pizza, but it was 2 am and no one was delivering. And I just don’t believe in the prepackaged type since I don’t know what imitation cheese is. So I took a tortilla, covered it with a little red sauce, fresh mozzarella and basil and baked it for 15 minutes. Voila, a snack was born.

RECIPE

  • Prep Time: 5 – 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 15 minutes
  • Total Time: 20 – 25 minutes

TOOLS

  • 1 8-inch chef’s knife
  • 1 non-stick baking tray or a piece of heavy duty foil
  • oven

INGREDIENTS

1 large flour tortilla

1 tsp olive oil (for drizzling)

1 tbsp of red sauce

1/4 cup of fresh mozzarella, chopped (fresh is preferred but low moisture mozzarella can be substituted)

3 basil leaves, chopped

1 tsp of Italian seasoning

1/4 tsp of fresh ground black pepper

METHOD

  1. Preheat oven to 425° F (220° C).
  2. Place large flour tortilla on a baking sheet or a piece of heavy duty foil.
  3. Drizzle 1 tsp of olive oil over tortilla.
  4. Spread 1 tbsp of red sauce all over tortilla.
  5. Add 1 cup of chopped, fresh mozzarella, 3 chopped basil leaves ad 1 tsp of Italian seasoning, and 1/4 tsp of fresh ground black pepper
  6. Bake at 425° F (220° C) for 15 minutes, or until tortilla edges begin to brown.

Snack.
